Sketches

Kimberlea in the Wild, 2011

This complex mapping of an afternoon and night in the Kimberley on 27th April, 2011 is based on sketches I made on location near the Fitzroy River. The watercolour and ink painting is a thank you gift for birthday girl Lea Ferris, who inspired  me, and her friends,  to travel to  the Kimberley to celebrate her big birthday!! Materials include:  300 gm Arches watercolour paper deckle-edge, Windsor & Newton watercolour paints and Talens ink.

Sunset Soiree Sir John Gorge, Kimberley, 2011

This is a drawing from my Kimberley sketchbook. A gorgeous hand-made book with coptic binding, made and given to me by my friend and teacher, Wendy Shortland. Materials include:  Canaletto Smooth watercolour paper, Cotman watercolours  and Copic pigment ink pens.

Wendy Shortland sketched my Powerpoint presentation at my MFA presentation about my studio-based thesis… I love Wendy’s selective orange to illustrate my Desert Triad Series highlighted against the grey graphite COFA lecture theatre
